Dead Cassette Tapes Reincarnated As Skeletons by
Brian Dettmer

Brian Dettmer is an American contemporary artist famous for utilizing old products in his sculptures. He has recently been doing a lot with books, but early on used records and glass. In his 2006 collection he uses cassette tapes to create a musical skeleton. He keeps the words legible, twisting and altering the tapes to accept his form. The cassettes are all white with black text, and when melted can be shaped like clay. He has two skulls with specific genres of tapes on them: Women of Pop and 80’s Metal. His full skeleton is formed with tapes like The Police, The Knack, and a few best of editions. To Dettmer, the skeletons represent a people who cannot live without music. The cassette skeletons show an extreme understanding of bone structure and exemplify his great ability to shift materials.

Meat –(NSFW) The impressive works of russian artist Dimitri Tsykalov.

Dimitri Tsykalov isn’t afraid to push the boundaries, as this series of photos attests. Draping nude figures in meat shaped like weapons of war, he creates an aggressive, barbaric atmosphere. The blood lust of these soldiers is reflected by the dripping meat that’s hanging off of them like armor.

Things like Ferguson really highlight how ridiculous it is when people dismiss social media as petty or “not real life”. Without social media, do we even find out about these journalists being arrested on a large scale? Do we see all of the incredible and horrifying pictures, get the full information?   Make no mistake, technology and social media are key to the quick and massive dissemination of important information, especially information that law enforcement and governmental agencies are trying to hide from the public.

Two main stream media journalists reportedly arrested without cause, assaulted in Ferguson
August 13, 2014

Two reporters working out of a McDonalds in Ferguson, Mo. say they were arrested and assaulted for no apparent reason while covering the increasingly violent clash between police and protestors on Wednesday night. Both were eventually released without being charged.

According to reports, Washington Post reporter Wesley Lowery and Huffington Post reporter Ryan J. Reilly were both arrested, handcuffed and booked. Once word of their arrests began circulating on social media, they were immediately released.

The already-tense situation in Ferguson escalated earlier today, when SWAT teams descended on the largely peaceful protests that have been taking place since an unarmed 18-year-old named Michael Brown was shot and killed by a police officer Saturday.

Lowery and Reilly were both apparently working from a Ferguson McDonalds when a SWAT team entered the restaurant. After posting initial tweets about the encounter, both reporters went offline just before 5 pm.

Lowery, who says he was slammed into a fountain soda machine during his arrest, wrote on Twitter that he was “Detained, booked, given answers to no questions. Then just let out… Got no explaination at any point why in custody other than “trespassing” - at a mcdonalds where we were customers.”

The Washington Post has obtained video of the arrest available at the source.

snakesdieyoung said: before you make a page defining yourself as the all knowing decision maker of what is racist an what isn't, you should first study a dictionary alittle bit better and realize that the definition of racism is strictly "The belief that some races of people are better than others" Prejudice is not racism, and stereotyping is not racism, just because i dont like you because you're black doesnt mean i think I'm better because I'm white. i just dont like you. saying black people never tip is notracist

Haha, look, a fucking racist piece of shit who thinks citing the dictionary could help his dumb ass win an argument! Way to go with the 4th grade level argument, guess what, you’re fucking wrong and stupid!

The photos and information coming out of Ferguson, MO this evening are shocking.

SWAT teams clearing out fast food restaurants, journalists arrested, full-scale police-as-military response to non-violent protest.

And yet perhaps the most amazing thing is that there seem not to be any elected officials willing to tell this police force to stand down.

They do because homeless people are invisible, vulnerable, and deserve dignity and recognition as full human…

Anonymous said: So the Feguson PD is refusing to answer 911, assualted and arrested a black journalist for 'trespassing' at a McDonalds where he was eating, are tear gassing people for refusal to disperse FROM THEIR OWN PRIVATE PROPERTY, and have de facto declared war on the black community. But then, none of this would have happened if we'd have just believed their story about why they shot an unarmed black kid a bunch of times in the back. So who's the real racist now, smart guy?

yoisthisracist:

Jesus

Among all the other terrifying things about this is: What do we DO about it? How do we fight back when the enemy is the police?

I know the long term institutional and societal changes answers, but what’s the NOW, STOP KILLING BLACK PEOPLE NOW, answer?
